The Senior Civil Project Engineer –Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) is responsible for leading and managing complex SUE projects with a focus on technical excellence, quality, and regulatory compliance. This role oversees advanced utility investigations, provides leadership to engineering and technical staff, and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality utility plans, reports, and project documentation.
The ideal candidate is an experienced Professional Engineer with a strong background in subsurface utility engineering, civil infrastructure, and project leadership.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage complex Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) projects, including advanced utility investigations and conflict resolution.
- Oversee utility mapping, design activities, and compliance with applicable industry standards, codes, and project requirements.
- Develop detailed utility plans and coordinate permitting, approvals, and field operations.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and quality reviews for engineers and technical staff.
- Interpret sketches, redlines, survey information, and field data to develop and revise SUE plans and drawings.
- Prepare and review technical reports, utility maps, as-built documentation, and other project deliverables.
- Conduct utility and property research to support engineering and design activities.
- Perform site visits and field observations to verify existing conditions and support project execution.
- Assist with project scheduling, resource planning, budgeting, and overall project coordination.
- Participate in client meetings by providing technical expertise and project updates.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Support business development efforts through proposal preparation and technical presentations.
- Assist with internal training and mentoring on SUE methodologies, engineering best practices, and quality standards.
- Monitor project progress and communicate status updates to project leadership.
Knowledge
- Expert proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or similar engineering design software.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) principles, utility conflict analysis, and utility design standards.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to SUE and civil infrastructure projects.
- Expertise in utility investigations, conflict resolution, and SUE project execution.
- Extensive knowledge of civil infrastructure systems, including water, wastewater, storm drainage, and underground utilities.
- Strong project management and organizational abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.
- Experience mentoring and developing junior engineers and technical staff.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in civil engineering design or Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE).
- At least 6 years of CAD experience with an emphasis on SUE deliverables.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.).
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas, or the ability to obtain Texas licensure if applicable.
